Cowboys’ Season Nears Breaking Point as Playoff Odds Plummet

DALLAS — The Dallas Cowboys’ playoff hopes are fading fast after a season defined by inconsistency, defensive struggles, and missed opportunities.

Dallas sits below .500 entering the final stretch of the regular season, leaving the team with only a slim mathematical chance to reach the postseason. A recent loss to the Minnesota Vikings dealt a major blow, forcing the Cowboys into a scenario that would require them to win out while relying on multiple losses by teams ahead of them in the NFC standings.

Defensive issues have been a central problem. Once considered a strength, the unit has struggled to stop opponents in key moments, allowing big plays and putting constant pressure on the offense to keep pace. Injuries to key defenders have only compounded those issues late in the year.

The Cowboys have also been hurt by penalties and uneven execution, stalling drives, and extending possessions for opponents. Coaching decisions and in-game adjustments have drawn increased scrutiny as losses mounted in close and winnable games.

While Dallas has not been officially eliminated, the margin for error is gone. Without a late-season turnaround and significant help from elsewhere in the conference, the Cowboys appear headed toward another offseason that will bring hard questions about the roster and direction of the franchise.

Dallas’ postseason fate could effectively be decided before it even takes the field this weekend. An Eagles victory in Saturday’s game would officially eliminate the Cowboys from playoff contention, turning the final weeks of the season into an evaluation period rather than a postseason push.
