What We Want From Resident Evil 8

Resident Evil 8’s upcoming release made me look back at Resident Evil 7 to see where we want to see an improvement to RE8.

Resident Evil 7 was an incredible game. The seventh installment of the RE franchise brought back survival horror at the Bakers’ Louisiana plantation. However, the tension and suspense didn’t last.

More tension

Ethan starts the game being chased throughout the mansion by Jack Baker for the first hour of the game. Jack Baker rivaled Mr. X with his level of pursuit, making every task intense. You can hear doors open and close, footsteps, and Jack talking. The molded becomes another obstacle alongside Jack in a mission trying to escape the house. For Resident Evil 8, hopefully, the horror and suspense will continually raise throughout. In most commercials and demo we there are is Lady Dimitrescu and two other women which seem to suggest more than one pursuing enemy.

Enemy Variety

This brings us to the next change I am hoping for… Resident Evil 8 has a few enemy types with the molded and The Baker Family. RE8 looks to bring us more variety with werewolves, witches, and zombies looking at game trailers. I can only hope this makes for better gameplay.

Better continuity to Resident Evil Universe

If Resident Evil 7 didn’t have the RE name you could say the game was a stand-alone. The RE universe is a very complex winding story with multiple protagonists. Resident Evil 6 took the series to a globe-trotting finish. Logically, there is no way a massive cargo ship, a large plantation, a wealthy family, and others go missing without suspicion. The BSAA, and DSO with Leon S. Kennedy would investigate before Ethan Winters arrives in Dulvey. Chris Redfield is featured in early trailers, which brings hope to more Resident Evil lore and characters. Redfield seems to play a larger role in the village than in RE7.
