Resident Evil Village is a classic horror thrill ride of a game, but Capcom reused Resident Evil 7’s plot.
Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 7.5/8/Village?
Before we get started, this is one of the best Resident Evil games I’ve have ever played. However, Resident Evil 7 and Village are so similar it seems like the same story. The same plot device are used:
- Ethan searching for a close family member
- Chris Redfield showing up a day late and a dollar short, again
- Ethan maimed again
- Wise cracking middle aged white guy sub boss (Heisenberg/Jack Baker)
- The main villain shape shifting into an elderly woman living among blood thirsty monsters. (This should been a dead give away for Ethan, seriously.)
- An invincible monster hunting you throughout a large labyrinth (Lady Dimitrescu/Jack Baker)
Then What’s New?
Resident Evil Village is open world horror game with most extensive map in Resident Evil game. With exception of Dimitrescu’s Castle, players can return to the area search for treasure and battle more enemies long after the main boss of the house is defeated. Capcom improved the enemy variety as all four houses have unique henchmen.
The game gave great symbolism on Europeans oppressive culture of nobility. The four lords of the village are predators, and exploit the villagers in more ways than one. Mother Miranda having the black wings of a vulture embodied that nature.
