Major League Baseball has authorized Tampa Bay Rays to explore a two city solution for their stadium woes.
The Rays are holding Tampa and Montreal hostage, for a chance at a newer stadium, with attempts at playing in both cities in upcoming seasons. Tampa would host the first 81 games, and Montreal would have the rest.
Relocations devastate cities and leave fan bases in ruin. The culture of sports teams strong-arming cities gets another weird wrinkle with this two cities mid-air heist scheme by the Rays. The Rays claim they could persuade a new stadium in Tampa and Montreal.
The players would play in different countries under this plan. The players association said Friday that players would have to agree to the pseudo-relocation. The players union is a disagreement with the MLB, whether the project violates the National Labor Relations Act.
The Rays plan to be a two city team by 2024.
