The Oakland Athletics publicly received approval from Major League Baseball to relocate.

The Oakland A’s have reached a standoff with Oakland officials for approval of a new ballpark in Howard Terminal. The two parties are at an impasse about funding needed for infrastructure improvements around the site, and the Athletics wanting out of East Oakland.

Team President Dave Kaval said, the Athletics had hoped to complete the stadium by 2023. Oakland city officials explained that the earliest the proposed ballpark could be complete is 2027. The A’s refuse to build at current home and site of the Oakland Coliseum. Kaval explained it’s either build at the Howard’s Terminal site or relocation.

Major League Baseball the most stable American sports league, has one relocation in 49 years, currently with three franchises considering relocations. The Tampa Bay Rays, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Oakland A’s have multiple locations to consider:

  • Charlotte
  • Nashville
  • Portland
  • Vancouver
  • Montreal
  • Las Vegas

The Rays seem to have their sights set on Montreal.
