Is Matt Kemp’s contract worth the risk for the team that gets him?
The Dodgers outfield is crowded with lots of talent, so they’re seeking to get rid of Matt Kemp and his massive contract. He was not traded during the trade deadline. But, the team put him the waiver wire yesterday.
In the first half of the season, Kemp struggled at the plate batting .225 in April; improving in May .266, he struggled to come off of injury.
Since the All-Star break, Kemp has heated up batting .350, but his playing time has decreased as a result of talented outfielders on the Dodgers.
Kemp admitted through his agent he would not mind being traded if that meant him being an every game starter.
“Whatever they want to do, we’re favorable to, as long as it allows him to play every day. He’d like to go back to the center-field eventually. He’s not opposed to right or left. But his hope at some point is to get back to the center.”
Most MLB teams are struggling to create runs this season; home runs have all but been put on a wanted poster this year, and some fans want shifts banned to generate more offense.
According to Sports Illustrated, Matt Kemp is set to earn $107 million of what’s left of his contract.
